About 162 km away from Madras is the Union Territory of Pondichery.

The famous shrine of Sri Manakula Vinayakar in the heart of the town is also located near the Aurobindo Ashram.It is 300 years old temple dedicated to Hindu God Sri Ganesha.
Pondicherry has a unique history that dates back to the Roman Empire era.Cultural ties between Pondichery and the French continue.it boasts of a divers culture both French,Tamil and Indian as a whole.

One of them is Karaikel which is 132 km away from here via world famous Temple town of Chidambaram and Sirkali town.
Poet Subramainiam Bharathiar 's songs were composed here .The house were he used to live has been converted into a Museum.
Karaikel is also famous for the shrine of Lord Saturn at Thirunallar.A larged number of people come here from all over the country.
Karaikel is just few km away from the Nagaor Dargaha of the Muslim community.
And,similarly ,the famous christian shrine at Vaillankinni is about some 40 km away from Karaikel via Nagapattnam,a sea port,
